Mark Taggart
Master Thatchers N.Ireland/Eire
"The N. Irish Thatching Company"
Mark believes that "People are quite nostalgic. For many thatching is a statement endorsing 'the good old days' when a handshake meant more than a contract".
Mark Taggart was born in Omagh, County Tyrone. A Master Thatcher, Mark has built up an impressive reputation as being an expert in the profession, who's dedication and quality of work have gained him much respect from his fellow craftsmen and indeed his satisfied customers.
Mark has thatched many historical buildings in both Northern and Southern Ireland. Mark has thatched the 200 year old cottage of Dan Winters, founder of the orange order in 1795. To his surprise Mark discovered a 200 year old musket hidden in the thatched roof.
Mark has also thatched the old mass house at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh, County Tyrone. Photos of Marks work can be viewed on this web site. The web site also provides an insight into thatching in N. Ireland with particular reference to the work of Master Thatcher Mark Taggart
